In response to farmers’ requests, the Andhra Pradesh government has increased the paddy purchase bag limit. State Home Minister Taneti Vanitha announced that the limit had been raised to 95 bags from 79 bags. During a meeting with civil supplies, Vanitha stated that the government would bear the transport and labor charges to bring the paddy to RBK centers and provide gunny bags free of cost.
Farmers had produced over 60 bags per acre during the Rabi season, but officials had informed them that only 40 bags per acre would be purchased. This caused concern among farmers, who then approached Konaseema district collector Himanshu Sukla regarding the paddy purchase limit. Sukla assured them that he would ensure the Andhra Pradesh government purchased up to 50 bags per acre.
This decision by the Andhra Pradesh government to increase the paddy purchase bag limit will come as a relief to farmers who were facing uncertainty due to the earlier limit. With the government bearing the transport and labor charges and providing free gunny bags, farmers can now sell their produce without worrying about additional costs. It is essential that the government continues to support farmers in this manner to ensure the state’s agriculture sector remains stable and profitable.
