Veldi Hariprasad, a skilled weaver from Sircilla, has gained recognition once again for his handloom creation of cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar and his wife Anjali Tendulkar using silk and silver threads. Weaving the 290-gram picture with 170 grams of silver ‘jari’ took him 20 days to complete. The exquisite creation was handed over to Tendulkar’s friend and former cricketer V Chamundeswaranath in Hyderabad. Chamundeswaranath will present it to Tendulkar as a birthday gift during his birthday celebrations in Goa. Along with the picture, a silk kurta and pyjama set are also part of the gift.
Hariprasad’s earlier works include a 750-gram saree made from 600 grams of silk thread and 150 grams of silver jari, which he had woven on the occasion of Sri Rama Navami. He has also created a saree that can fit into a matchbox and pass through the hole of a needle, and a single cloth with the national anthem woven into it.
Hariprasad had previously gained recognition for his handwoven G20 logo on a cloth, which was acknowledged by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on his ‘Mann Ki Baat’ program in November 2020.
