Telangana is set to become the electric vehicle (EV) manufacturing hub of India, according to the state’s IT and Industries Minister, KT Rama Rao. Speaking at the Bhumi Puja ceremony for Mahindra Last Mile Mobility’s new EV manufacturing facility in Zaheerabad, Rao stated that Telangana was offering the best EV policy in the country and had established three EV manufacturing hubs.

The Telangana Mobility Valley project is aimed at encouraging EV manufacturers and includes an innovation hub in Divitipally, a research and development hub in Yenkathala, and a manufacturing hub in Zaheerabad. Rao declared that EVs were the future of the automobile industry and that internal combustion vehicles would soon disappear.

The state government had come up with an EV policy to encourage manufacturers and would procure EVs for use in government sectors. Mahindra & Mahindra had announced an investment of INR1,000 crore in the current EV unit, which will create employment for 800-1000 people in the region.
