Exciting news has emerged for the cricketing community in Hyderabad as three talented women cricketers from the city have been chosen to represent India in the upcoming ACC Emerging Women’s Asia Cup, scheduled to begin on June 12 in Hong Kong.
Gongadi Trisha, S Yashasri, and wicketkeeper-batter Mamatha Madiwala, who were part of India’s successful Under-19 World Cup winning team, have secured their spots in the 14-member India A squad. Leading the team will be Shweta Sehrawat, the vice-captain of the Under-19 World Cup-winning team.
The final selection of the team was made following a rigorous national camp held at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru. Trisha, who showcased impressive all-round skills during the recent Under-19 Women’s World Cup, caught the attention of selectors. Yashasri, a valuable member of the squad, also made the cut. Meanwhile, Mamatha, the daughter of a former cricketer, had previously earned a place in the Indian senior women’s challenger series.
India A (Emerging) will commence their campaign on June 13, facing the host team, Hong Kong, in their first match. Subsequently, they will compete against Thailand on June 15 and Pakistan on June 17.
The tournament will take place in Hong Kong at the Tin Kwong Road Recreation Ground and will showcase eight teams divided into two groups: Group A and Group B. India A (Emerging) is placed in Group A, alongside hosts Hong Kong, Thailand ‘A,’ and Pakistan ‘A.’ Group B consists of Bangladesh ‘A,’ Sri Lanka ‘A,’ Malaysia, and the United Arab Emirates.
The tournament is set to commence on June 12, with the final scheduled for June 21. The Indian team, India A (Emerging), is packed with talent, boasting a strong lineup that includes Shweta Sehrawat as the captain, Soumya Tiwari as the vice-captain, and a formidable roster of players such as Trisha Gongadi, Muskan Malik, Shreyanka Patil, Kanika Ahuja, Uma Chetry, Mamatha Madiwala, Titas Sadhu, Yashasri S, Kashvee Gautam, Parshavi Chopra, Mannat Kashyap, and B Anusha.
