The Telangana cabinet, led by Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, has embarked on a symbolic transformation by adopting a new state anthem, altering its official abbreviation, and reimagining the iconic Telangana Talli, the mother goddess of the state.
As part of this transformation, ‘Jaya Jaya Ho Telangana’ by Andre Sri has been chosen as the new state anthem, replacing the former anthem. Additionally, the state’s official abbreviation will shift from TS to TG. The decision to change the abbreviation is rooted in the accusation that the previous regime chose ‘TS’ to align with their party name, Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), which was formerly known as Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS).
In a move that aligns with Congress’s national promise, the Telangana cabinet has decided to conduct a caste census in the state. Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, last month, had expressed the state’s commitment to undertaking a comprehensive caste census.
The decisions were unveiled in anticipation of the Telangana budget session, commencing Thursday. Chief Minister Reddy has also thrown down the gauntlet to his predecessor, K Chandrashekar Rao (KCR), KTR, and Harish Rao, challenging them to a debate on irrigation projects on the assembly floor—an invitation accepted by the BRS.
The Congress and BRS have been engaged in a verbal skirmish, each accusing the other of neglecting the state’s interests and the welfare of farmers. In another significant move, the state government is set to announce gas and power guarantees during the upcoming session.
Furthermore, the cabinet has issued directives to allocate 100 acres for the construction of a new high court complex in Rajendranagar district. These changes signify a pivotal moment in Telangana’s trajectory, blending symbolism with practical governance decisions. The state is poised for transformation as it embraces a new anthem, abbreviation, and embarks on a journey towards social inclusion through the caste census.
